The Bali 2 Komodo Challenge is B2K's flagship tour — the one we've been running since 2018 and the one riders mention when they talk about the best motorcycle trip of their lives. It takes you from Bali's spiritual heart, across the Lombok Strait, through the raw volcanic landscape of Sumbawa, and finally onto the prehistoric shores of Komodo. You ride roads most travellers never reach. You take ferries between islands with your bike. You watch Komodo dragons in the wild. And you do it all on two wheels, with a team that has covered every kilometre of this route dozens of times.

1,000+ riders have completed this route with B2K. Our average rating is 4.9 stars. The most common feedback: "I didn't think Indonesia could be this good."

The Route — 12 Days Across 6 Islands

The route begins in Denpasar and crosses six islands — Bali, Lombok, Gili Trawangan, Sumbawa, Komodo and Flores — each with its own landscape, culture and road character. Extreme and Deluxe riders fly back to Bali from Labuan Bajo; Roundtrip riders loop back the whole way by road instead.

01

Denpasar → Seminyak · Bali

Arrival day. Meet the group, inspect the bikes, briefing dinner. The adventure starts tomorrow.

02

Seminyak → Tejakula · Bali · 150 km

North Bali coastal road. Rice terraces, black sand beaches, the quieter side of the island.

03

Tejakula → Ubud · Bali · 90 km

Through the volcanic highlands and into Ubud. Temple roads and jungle descents.

04

Ubud → Senggigi · Lombok · 150 km + ferry

First island crossing via Padangbai. The ferry ride with the bikes is an experience in itself.

05

Senggigi → Gili Trawangan · Lombok · 20 km

Short ride to the port, boat transfer to Gili T. Rest day. The Gilis are car-free — no riding today.

06

Gili T → Sambelia · Sumbawa · 120 km

East Lombok to Sumbawa. The roads open up. Traffic disappears. This is where the riding gets serious.

07

Sambelia → Sekongkang · Sumbawa · 120 km

Cross Sumbawa's southern coast. Empty tarmac, ocean views, almost no other vehicles.

08

Sekongkang → Moyo Utara · Sumbawa · 200 km

The longest riding day. Volcanic interior roads, changing landscapes every hour.

09

Moyo Utara · Rest Day + Whale Sharks

Rest day at Moyo. Snorkelling with whale sharks if the season is right.

10

Moyo Utara → Bima · 260 km

The big day. Full Sumbawa crossing. Arrives at Bima for the final island ferry.

11

Bima → Komodo / Labuan Bajo · 50 km

Arrive in Flores, ride to Labuan Bajo. Komodo dragon tour in the afternoon. Celebration dinner.

12

Labuan Bajo → Denpasar · Flight home

Flight back to Bali. The bikes go home by ferry. Deluxe riders cap the trip off with a helicopter tour over Bali before flying home. You go home with a story.

The guided option adds an expert guide, the support vehicle and all meals for +$550 per person, and it needs a group of at least 6 riders — we run a handful of guided departures a year and group smaller parties together to reach the six.

Price modifiers (apply to all packages)

Minimum price: $2,700 (Roundtrip, self-guided standard). Deposit to reserve: $500 per person. 50% two months before departure, the rest two weeks before or in cash on arrival.

What's Included

In the standard (self-guided) price, on every package:

Only with the guided option (+$550 per person, min. 6 riders). Without it you ride alone:

The Bikes

You'll ride one of two bikes depending on your size and riding style:

All bikes are fully serviced by our mechanic before each tour. The group is capped at 12 bikes maximum, which keeps it personal and manageable on narrow roads.

Who Is This For?

This is listed as Intermediate difficulty. You need to be a confident rider on unfamiliar roads — not a professional, but not a beginner. If you've ridden in Europe or North America for 2+ years and are comfortable on medium-distance days (100-150 km), you're ready.

Most riders in our groups are in their 30s and 40s, from Europe, the UK, Australia and North America. Some have done guided tours before. Some haven't. The common thread is that they want a proper adventure, not a tourist package.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an international motorcycle licence?

You need a valid motorcycle licence from your home country. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended and easy to obtain before departure. We can advise on this when you book.

What are the dates? Do you have fixed departures?

Every package is self-guided by default — you ride it on any dates you choose, with the same bike and the same hotels, on your own. Once a year we also run a guided group departure (minimum 6 riders, we group smaller parties together to fill it); 2026's is November 4th. Adding the guided departure — an expert guide riding alongside, a mechanic with the group, the support vehicle and all meals — is +$550 per person.

Can I join if I haven't done a motorcycle tour before?

Yes — about 40% of our riders are on their first tour with us. Self-guided you set your own pace and ride it alone, with the roadbook we hand you; on a guided departure the guide sets a pace that works for the group and no one gets left behind. What you do need either way is solid basic riding experience on public roads.

What if I crash or something breaks?

On a guided departure the mechanic travelling with the group fixes minor issues roadside. Riding self-guided you are on your own on the road, which is why the bike is fully serviced before you take it and why we recommend the full-risk insurance ($275) rather than the refundable deposit. In the event of a serious accident we have protocols for hospital transport and trip interruption either way.

Is the deposit refundable?

Yes — cancel more than 30 days before departure and you get everything back, deposit included. Inside 30 days it is non-refundable.

Ready for the Challenge?

12 days. Three routes. The ride of a lifetime.
